Around fifty cars have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postal boxes were marked, occasionally with swastikas, they reported in a release.
Law enforcement state they were alerted late on Wednesday, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish substance.
The substance had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then discovered numerous other vandalized cars and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under laws banning the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials state initial examinations indicate the fluid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no lead as to its origin; authorities are not yet informed of any harm in relation with the incident," they added.
City officials announced they were working "to unravel the mystery" and have asked to the public for tips.
A high-ranking political figure stated the incident rendered him speechless and had to be addressed quickly.
"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the right-wing terrorist attack in 2020," he posted on online, referring to the murder of nine people by a assailant targeting residents of foreign heritage in February 2020.
